Activities

ICISA’s main activities include the exchange of information, creating industry positions on legal and regulatory developments, create and share common views of the industry towards our advocacy and media  target groups, carry out market research and support or create networking opportunities.

Advocacy
One of ICISA’s tasks is to share common views of the industry towards our advocacy target groups. We promote the understanding of trade credit insurance and surety and advise international and multi-national authorities about regulatory, legal and accounting developments affecting our industry; thus facilitating an open and level playing field for our members.

We are counterpart for Insurance Europe
 towards EIOPA and the European Commission in the drafting and implementation of Solvency II requirements. Other selected advocacy and media topics include, state support schemes, trading conditions and the level playing field for surety bonds in the EU. Furthermore we represent our members in the meetings of the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

Media relations
ICISA initiates press conference calls if and when required by the members. ICISA welcomes ongoing requests from the media for industry expert views.

Meetings
ICISA members meet during three annual meetings: the
Spring Meetings, the General and Associated Meetings and the Autumn Meetings. Four committees meet during the Spring and the Autumn Meetings, while the general meeting of members is during the General and Associated Meetings. The meetings are held in different locations and are hosted by the ICISA Secretariat. 

Additionally ICISA has the Solvency II Expert Group.

Market analysis, statistics and studies
On a regular basis ICISA carries out market research on topics such as marketable risk, claims and losses, and the impact of legal legislation. Members’ results underpin the position of the industry with comparable data and statistics.

We also publish studies relevant to the industry, such as contract guarantees in the EU and implications of single risk cover. These studies are written by our committees and/ or other industry experts. We collaborate closely with colleague associations in the collection of relevant industry data.

Studies and Projects
In order to support the interest of the members and share knowledge about trade credit insurance and surety with third parties, the association publishes studies that are relevant to the industry. Projects are undertaken and papers written for the benefit of its members. These include: Solvency II, the possible effects of the Basel III Accord on the trade credit and surety industry, the privatisation of short-term political risk; contract guarantees in the EU; designing a new style performance bond; finalisation of EDI message specifications for trade credit insurers and information providers; implications of single risk cover; the impact of catastrophic events on protracted default cover; data protection; promoting a level playing field for surety products; fronting experience; insuring factor companies; insuring lease transactions; self-insurance; pre-credit risk and regulatory effects on intermediaries. The association collaborates closely with colleague associations in the collection of relevant industry data.

ICISA’s Linkedin group shares knowledge and views and informs about ICISA’s activities. In this group ICISA professionals are joined by other professionals from the industries.
